A warm welcome from our pastor

Welcome to Asbury United Methodist Church!
From Pastor Sharon Bowers

Dear Beloved,

Welcome! Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have been part of our Asbury family for years, we are so glad you’re here. At Asbury United Methodist Church, we believe in creating a space where all are embraced with open arms, where questions are welcomed, faith is nurtured, and love is lived out in community.

Our hope is that you feel the presence of God in our worship, the warmth of Christ in our fellowship, and the movement of the Spirit in all we do together. We are a church that celebrates openness, values compassion, and is committed to growing in faith and service.

I invite you to journey with us as we seek to be a light in our community—offering hope, healing, and hospitality in Christ’s name. There’s a place for you here, and we’re honored to share this sacred space with you.

With grace and gratitude,

Rev. Sharon Bowers
Pastor, Asbury United Methodist Church

New Bible Study at Asbury UMC - Sep 4 - Oct 9

Making Sense of the Bible
by Adam Hamilton

Wrestling with Scripture? You’re not alone.
Join us for an honest, thought-provoking journey through the Bible with bestselling author and pastor Adam Hamilton as our guide.

Together, we’ll explore big questions many Christians wonder but are often afraid to ask:

  • Is the Bible meant to be taken literally?
  • What about science and Scripture?
  • How do we make sense of violence in the Old Testament?
  • What does the Bible say about today’s hot-button issues?

This is a study for seekers, skeptics, and lifelong believers alike—a safe and welcoming space to explore the Bible with curiosity, grace, and open hearts.

🕰️ When: Thursdays, Sept. 4th - Oct. 2nd, 6-7:30pm
📍 Where: Barton Hollow Farm

📖 Facilitator: John Reviere
📚 Materials: Book provided at first session or bring your own
☕ Light refreshments served

A Bold New Ministry For Men - Begins Sept 10

🌲 The Campfire Covenant

A Men’s Ministry of Asbury United Methodist Church
Faith. Brotherhood. The Great Outdoors.

Vision:

To create a space where men can gather around the shared love of the outdoors—hiking trails, rivers, and campfires—to explore faith, cultivate authentic friendships, and grow as spiritual leaders in their homes and communities.

Core Values:

  • Connection – building real, deep relationships through conversation and shared adventure

  • Exploration – of both the natural world and the spiritual journey

  • Reflection – creating space for stillness, prayer, and listening for God’s voice

  • Purpose – equipping men to live with integrity, courage, and compassion

🔥 What We Do:

Monthly Campfire Gatherings
Evening meetups around a fire (at Asbury or local parks) with food, story-sharing, devotional reflection, and space for honest conversation. No pressure. Just presence.

Quarterly Outdoor Excursions
Join other men for hiking, fly fishing, or kayaking adventures. These day or overnight trips create natural space for connection and spiritual insight.

Seasonal Retreats: “Wilderness and the Word”
Weekend retreats combining spiritual practices with outdoor activities. Morning devotions, guided reflections, firelit worship, and practical tools for personal growth.

Mentoring and Accountability Circles
For those seeking deeper spiritual growth, we offer small groups (3–4 men) that meet regularly to pray, check in, and encourage one another through life’s challenges.

🌄 Who It's For:

  • Men of all ages exploring questions of faith and purpose

  • Those who feel more connected to God in the wild than in a sanctuary

  • Men looking for authentic, non-judgmental community

  • Adventurers who want more than just a weekend trip—they want brotherhood with meaning

“Gathered by fire. Guided by faith. Grounded in brotherhood.”

Reckless Love: Jesus’ Call to Love Our Neighbor
by Tom Berlin

Discover the Power of Loving Boldly

  • Discover practical ways to build deeper connections with others

  • See how small acts of kindness can transform lives — including our own

  • Grow in faith, compassion, and courage

Helping Our Neighbors In Need

Did you know that you can be the lifeline a local family desperately needs!

Right now, families in our own community are facing heartbreaking choices—whether to keep the lights on or put food on the table, whether to pay rent or face eviction. These are our neighbors, and they need us now more than ever.

At Asbury’s Benevolence Ministry, we offer hope in the form of emergency assistance to individuals and families who are on the brink of losing their housing due to overdue rent or utility bills. But this week, the need has outpaced our resources. Several families have reached out for help—and we no longer have the funds to say “yes.”

That’s where you come in.

Your gift to the Benevolence/Second Mile Assistance Fund will provide immediate relief for qualified applicants who have nowhere else to turn. Every single dollar you give goes directly to cover past-due housing or utility expenses—100%—no overhead, no red tape. Just real help, right when it’s needed most.

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for Me.” – Matthew 25:40

Together, we can answer that call.

Make a Difference This School Year – Join Our Mission at Highland Elementary

Dear Asbury Family,

As we enter a new school year, Asbury has a wonderful opportunity to come alongside the students and staff of Highland Elementary through a mission of encouragement, generosity, and presence.

We’re currently collecting school supplies and treats to support both learning and morale. Items especially needed include:

  • Headphones
  • Dry erase markers
  • Scissors
  • Backpacks
  • And chocolate – any kind! (for our hardworking staff!)

Please bring any donations to the Fellowship Hall—every gift makes a difference and reminds these students and teachers that they’re not alone.

In addition, Highland is seeking caring adult volunteers to serve as lunch buddies—sharing a simple meal and meaningful conversation with students who would benefit from the steady encouragement of a kind and consistent adult. It’s a small commitment with life-changing potential.

If you're interested in being a lunch buddy or want to learn more, please reach out to the church office.

Let’s be the hands and heart of Christ in our community. Thank you for being a part of this important mission.

With gratitude,
Asbury United Methodist Church
