THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Welcome, friend.
Grace and peace to you.
Whether you’re visiting Asbury for the first time or returning as part of our long-loved church family, we’re truly glad you’re here. Your presence matters, and we don’t take it for granted.
At Asbury United Methodist Church, we seek to be a community rooted in Christ and grounded in grace. We believe faith is meant to be lived honestly, where questions are welcomed, relationships are nurtured, and love is practiced in real and tangible ways. We gather to worship, to grow, and to serve, trusting that God meets us right where we are and gently calls us forward.
My prayer is that as you spend time among us, you’ll sense God’s nearness in worship, experience genuine connection in community, and discover meaningful opportunities to grow in faith and serve others. Whether life feels steady or uncertain right now, you don’t have to walk alone. There is a place for you here.
We would be honored to walk alongside you as we seek to live boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously, sharing Christ’s hope and love in our community and beyond.
With grace and gratitude,
Rev. Sharon Bowers
Lead Pastor, Asbury United Methodist Church

We hope you'll consider a visit to Asbury United Methodist Church! Whether you’re exploring faith, visiting from out of town, or searching for a church home, we want you to feel comfortable and cared for from the moment you arrive.
Here’s everything you need to know to plan your visit:

A Legacy of Faith In Action
For over 150 years, Asbury has served the Greeneville community in discipleship, worship, and community service. Ours is a story not of a church’s success, but of God’s faithfulness. Through ordinary people offering time, gifts, and compassion, lives are being touched in quiet, meaningful ways. We offer this snapshot with humility and thanksgiving, trusting God to keep leading us forward.

When Christians Get It Wrong
by Adam Hamilton
Why are so many young people walking away from the church?
And what if, instead of blaming culture or generations, we were willing to look honestly at ourselves?
This winter, Books & Brew invites you into a thoughtful, challenging, and deeply hopeful study of When Christians Get It Wrong by Adam Hamilton. In this study, Hamilton names a hard truth many of us already sense: younger generations aren’t necessarily rejecting Jesus, they’re often turned away by the ways Christians have misrepresented him. Together, we’ll wrestle with questions like:
This is an invitation to honest reflection, meaningful conversation, and a more faithful way forward. Whether you’re deeply rooted in the church, feeling disillusioned, or simply curious about how faith can be lived more authentically, you’ll find space here to think, listen, and grow.
Building bridges. Weakening walls. And rediscovering a faith that looks a lot more like Jesus.

Wrestling with Doubt, Finding Faith
by Adam Hamilton
Got questions about faith? You’re in good company.
This winter, we’re launching a six-week journey through Adam Hamilton’s Wrestling with Doubt, Finding Faith—a study that creates space for the questions many Christians carry quietly:
Hamilton invites us into an honest, compassionate conversation about belief, uncertainty, and the God who meets us in both. Whether you’re struggling with long-held questions or simply wanting to deepen your understanding, this study offers a safe, thoughtful place to explore faith with openness and grace.
Materials: Books available at the first session, or bring your own copy.
Come with your doubts. Come with your curiosity. Leave with deeper faith, greater hope, and the assurance that God welcomes your questions.
We meet in comfortable, casual settings—places where conversation comes easily and everyone has a seat at the table. No pressure. No prerequisites. Just real people growing in faith together.
This six-week study is facilitated by John Reviere.
We’ll meet each Tuesday evening beginning January 13, 2026 at Barton Hollow Farm.

LIFE IN THE KINGDOM
Led by Steve Parsons
Welcome to the 'Life in the Kingdom study group', a class premised on the prayer of Jesus that “Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” As believers in Jesus as the Son of God and Messiah who await His return, how are we to live in the present world? How can we enable and advance the coming of God’s kingdom on this earth by the lives that we live?
These are the questions we seek to address in each study undertaken. Currently, the Life in the Kingdom study group is focusing on the Gospel of Mark to understand why it is properly considered the “essential gospel” for believers today.
Our study group is open to any and all adults of any age who wish to know more about life today in the kingdom of God. It meets in the La Rue classroom on the second floor of the education building on Sunday's at 9:00am.
🕰️ When: Sunday Mornings from 9-10 am
📍 Where: LaRue Classroom (1st Floor, Education Building)
📖 Facilitator: Steve Parsons
Come with your questions.
Leave with deeper understanding.
No pressure. No prerequisites. Just real people exploring faith together.

Did you know that you can be the lifeline a local family desperately needs!
Right now, families in our own community are facing heartbreaking choices—whether to keep the lights on or put food on the table, whether to pay rent or face eviction. These are our neighbors, and they need us now more than ever.
At Asbury’s Benevolence Ministry, we offer hope in the form of emergency assistance to individuals and families who are on the brink of losing their housing due to overdue rent or utility bills. But this week, the need has outpaced our resources. Several families have reached out for help—and we no longer have the funds to say “yes.”
That’s where you come in.
Your gift to the Benevolence/Second Mile Assistance Fund will provide immediate relief for qualified applicants who have nowhere else to turn. Every single dollar you give goes directly to cover past-due housing or utility expenses—100%—no overhead, no red tape. Just real help, right when it’s needed most.
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for Me.” – Matthew 25:40
Together, we can answer that call.
Donate today and be the reason a family can stay in their home.

We are excited to bring you Church Center, Asbury's online community. Church Center is a full-service interface that allows you to engage with our church, our members, and our ministries online.
