AUMC Choral Scholarship

Thanks to a generous gift, we are looking for 4 music scholars to enhance our music ministry. Asbury offers the opportunity for high school and college students to offer their talents while earning a scholarship. The students will be supervised by Cynthia Sams, Director of Music. Music Scholar Responsibilities will include participation in weekly worship with the chancel choir and attending weekly rehearsal. There will be the opportunity to build musical skills by sharing in the worship services.

Scholarship Information

Asbury Music Scholarship Program—2023

Eligibility:

1. High school or college student
2. Able to read and sing music—soprano, alto, tenor, or bass parts
3. Able to participate in all Wednesday night rehearsals
4. Able to participate in Sunday morning rehearsals from 9:15-10:00
5. Able to participate in all Sunday morning worship services at 10:00
5. Able to participate in extra, special programs
6. Able to contact the director immediately in case of illness or emergencies.

Scholarship opportunities:
1. Students will be interviewed and expected to sing for the director and possibly
members of the committee prior to being offered a Musical Agreement.
2. Students will be paid $50 per week for participation in the weekly rehearsal
AND Sunday morning service— Payment will be made on the first
Sunday after the month has been completed.
3. The opportunity will run from September through May.
4. An extra stipend of $50 will be paid for extra, special programs/rehearsals
(Christmas and Easter).
5. No payment will be made for the sessions that are not attended.
6. Excessive absences will result in termination so that the services of other
students can be arranged.
Priority of Choir Needs:
1. Bass
2. Tenor
3. Alto
4. Soprano
